In a day an age where we are constantly struggling to “make time” for everything in our lives, the value of instant gratification is immense. “Stopping to smell the roses” is beyond our generation because, in that amount of time, we could be checking our email or Twitter accounts. According to a recent trend report released by trendwatching.com, this is known as “NOWISM.”
NOWISM | “Consumers’ ingrained lust for instant gratification is being satisfied by a host of novel, important (offline and online) real-time products, services and experiences. Consumers are also feverishly contributing to the real-time content avalanche that’s building as we speak. As a result, expect your brand and company to have no choice but to finally mirror and join the ‘now’, in all its splendid chaos, realness and excitement.”
So what does this mean for businesses? According to the report it means 3 things:
1. Your brand cannot be stagnant and must be “real-time.” This means real-time: offers, customer service, feedback, etc. This also includes going “mobile” because smart phones are allowing consumers to be connected 24/7.
2. Live feeds are where it’s at. This refers to concerts, parties, games, festivals, etc. If done well, these could be great for boosting your brand and/or profitable for your business.
3. Consumers want instant purchases. The time it should take to make a purchase has been shortened because consumers have instant access to information. With a plethora of applications at their fingertips that allow them to comparison shop, consumers can more rapidly make purchase decisions.
