Last week, I set out to prove – albeit to myself – that I was not alone in the idea that we must create some sort of “Social Media Manners Guide” to avoid making each other feel completely inadequate amidst the sea of social network posting and microblogging mania.
To fully understand, and to avoid repeating myself, you can simply refer to this article: http://smartgirlsconsulting.com/media-manners-and-why-it-matters/(You see, this is the upside to social media: I actually just created a link for myself back to myself even though you could actually just scroll down to the June 18th entry…but that would just be waaaaaaaaaaaay too much work and I don’t want to lose anyone’s attention).
I digress. Now for the fun part. So I posted this question on my Facebook Profile under my status report (which is usually blank by the way):
Rebekah Iliff wants to know if anyone else is offended when you’re mid-conversation and someone pulls out thier iPhone b/c they’ve just gotten a tweet from someone who they barely know…then proceed to re-tweet it…all while you are still conversing? If so, I want to know….writing a series of articles on “social media manners.” IT’S RUDE PEOPLE!
I’ll have you know I had NINE “Likes” and several people commented. Here are just a few responses and I’ve used fake names to protect the innocents in this very important issue!
SASSY 11 said: Generally yes, I think it’s rude.
B. SARCASTIC remarked: I think this question would be better answered on Twitter.
PONDERING IN PEMBROKE said: I love to tweet but I still find it to be thoughtless for someone to tweet while we’re engaged in a conversation.
TRUE BLUE stated: I have to agree, no Tweet is that important.
MB shouted: Yes Yes! In L.A. it’s an epidemic.
AMBROSIA said: cell phones and social manners really don’t go together in my opinion…but i’ve been called on answering a text mid-convo too, a tweet is worse!
TEXAS HOTTIE remarked: Amen!! It is rude
So there you have it…or at least a few of the best comments from the posed question. Stay tuned for more fun social experiments and social media manners tidbits. And BTW….Feel free to tweet, re-tweet, post, and everything else it is we do to pass along extremely interesting information to our closest and not-so-closest friends.
